RE: BAND CAMP

All right. Firstly, I would like to apologise before sharing about my band camp. I am very sorry for not updating my blog for about a week. This is because of my camp and band practice. Basically, my schedule is still as packed as before. Thus, please dun blame me for not posting.

Now, I will share the experience we had in our band camp.

Day 1 "The boring and saddening moment"

Day 1 is NOT an overnight camp. I reached school at about 8.12am approximately and saw almost all the sec 1s arrived. After our "fall-in march", we set up our instrument and wait for our instructor to play some songs. Well, to be frank, our instructor was lecturing and in the end walked out of the music room. So he didn't even taught us anything. He was too exasperated to hear feedbacks from us. Mr Er thought that he was being insulted greatly. After he left, our band majorette cried. I was kinda shocked because we would be having sectional practice the whole entire day!!!! After that, we had our "superb" lunch. Then, we had sectional practice (for 5 hours) because of our atrocious playing this morning. The whole day was kinda boring. And I was asking myself whether this was a camp? At about 4.30pm, all the band members who were from brasses (Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, French Horn and Euphonium) went for blasting session at the school field meaning we had to play with our instrument very LOUD and with nice tone until the band majorette could hear us at the end of the field. It was overall fun only for blasting session. Then, we were dismissed at 6.50pm.

Day 2 "The 55% of Exhilaration, 25% of training & 20% of suffering"

Day 2 is FINALLY an overnight camp!!! We were so happy. This morning our instructor was pissed off by us because of our horrendous playing on two songs. He almost walked out of the music room again today but luckily, he changed his mind and gave us one more chance. We heaved a sigh of relief. After playing two songs, we had our good lunch. At least it was better than yesterday's. Then, we had sectional practice for 45 minutes. Time had passed very quickly and we were called up by our instructor to combine the whole band again. This time round we played "The inferno". Mr Er said that the trombone section was not loud and solid enough so we tried to blow louder.

In the mid-afternoon, we went for our games. They were quite fun.
We played the following games:

- Water Bomb (Special version)

- Douche ball -- quite boring :[

After games, we went bathing!! :]

So long, we had our dinner, we would go for NIGHT practice. The main band and alumni would combine whereas the sec 1s would practice drama. Wah... let me tell you that the drama was so "wa piang". Some of my friends and I had been sitting a corner doing nothing for the entire 2.5 hours! So sianz...

It was 11pm. Our ex- majorette was asking questions about our instrutor for 30 minutes.

Lastly, it was sleeping time!! Zi Xi was snoring so loudly and I was giggling for a very short while.
I can't sleep lohhs because my seniors beside me were talking non-stop and singing at the same time! Wah piang.. i was kinda annoyed by them. But after that, they dozed off. Finally, I could sleep.

Snore, Snore and Snore!!! Good Night!!

Day 3 "The reluctant moment"

We woke up at 6.30am and went to brush our teeth. Then we were required to fall-in at the parade square by 7.05am??? I forget liaos... After that, we had to do morning exercise at the bukit panjang area. The boys had to run 4.8km and the girls had to run 2.4km which means the boys run double. Zi Xi was running with the teachers while the rest run with the chairman of camp, "Alistair". I was running like hell!!! It's a great distance although I participated in the cross country before. Then, I realised that we were running greater than 4.8km!! That time, when I run the cross country it was not that bad. But this time round, we ran further that 5km!!! What the hell! The people behind me were stopping but I still tried to continue and not to stop. In front of me was "Johnathon" (sec 2E1) also from trombone section. He was very far away from me!! His advantage distance between he and I was roughly 200 meters I think. I was the second to finish the run... first time sia...

It was 8.00am and we were having our breakfast. Because of our sweat and the stink smell from our body, some of us took a bath before band practice starts at 9am.

In the mid-afternoon, we would be having our BBQ session!!! WOW!! it's utterly fun! The food were nice and I never had BBQ before. We BBQ until 8.15pm!!! Shocking right? I gone up to our bunks and packed our things as quickly as possible. Followed by our area cleaning.

Lastly,

HOME SWEET HOME!!!

Glossary:

Sectional Practice - each section (e.g. Trombone) go to somewhere to practice the songs that they are not sure with ; Section Self-practice.

Combine - The whole band had to proceed to the music room so that the instructor would check on our playing.

Alumni - Students who already graduated or those who had already stepped down.

Fall-in - This is usually used in marching or drilling. Everyone has to stand straight in se-nan-di-ri position.

RE: ZSS OPEN HOUSE (FRI & SAT)

Ello, people! For the past few days, our band performed for the Open House at the Hall. We played 9 songs randomly for each an every round. We didn't perform that well, according to our instructor, Mr Er. While we were sitting at the hall, waiting for our turn to play some musics, there were many balloons popping at the right side of the hall... LOL... it was actually the choirs who were making balloons, then dunno who burst it.. After that, we saw some of the choir members inserting the angel-wings-balloon at the back of their back. It was very funny when Ms Ang wore it...

Let just say that the open house was a good experience for us. We get to perform in front of the minor crowd and at the same time we could learn to build up our confidence during our play.

Nevertheless, our instructor was lecturing for half and hour because of our horrendous playing on "The Merry Widow". He was also exasperated about the stuffiness in the Music Room. For goodness sake, the air-corns were faulty despite the fact that after the men repaired it. We were so hot and warm during the endurable moment in the music room. Hopefully, the air-corns will not be spoilt again, if not we are going to endure the heat once again.

Hey, ya! Our band is organising a camp next week and I am so excited and enthusiastic about it.

Shall end my post here!! ByE! ByE!

RE: BAND BONDING AND CHIJ PERFORMANCE

Hello!!! =D Ladies and Gentlemen... boys and girls!!! I am back for posting again... well, I am just telling you people that I will only be posting nowadays OCCASIONALLY.

Ok, now... let's see... I will start with my "bonding" today with some of my bandmates. Today at 8.30am, I reached bukit panjang LRT to meet my bandmates so that we could proceed CHIJ (Girls' school) together as one. The time was 8.45am but I guessed I turned up too early. I am the early bird!!! (dun tease me "bird" again hah.. -.-) Unfortunately, I was waiting for quite sometime and it was 8.55am already! NONE of my friends arrived yet except certain people who stay around Bukit Panjang. From 8.40am onwards, no train arrives at Platform 2?! I guessed there was a train delay which had delayed the passengers for 10 minutes! Those who are working will soon be late. And so after the delay, all my bandmates finally arrived!!

Half and hour later, we finally made our destination to CHIJ. The school was quite new, but it was founded in 1955. Then, we proceeded to the CCA band room, to take a look at the primary school kids and the instruments there. When we took a glance at the instruments, we had a rude shock! They were so called "cute" by judging the size of them. The trombones were slightly smaller than our one in school. As we are performing, together with CHIJ girls, for the Primary 1 orientation, we are using their instruments to play because we did not bring our own trombone. We played two "Grade 2" songs which are "The tempest" and "Fun, Fun, Fun". Okay, let me tell you all that I loved "Fun, Fun, Fun". This song is really FUN!!! And is quite simple for us.. It was a golden opportunity for trombonists to play the melody part as trombones normally do not have melody parts.

After our performance, we were dismissed by our instructor and we hurried to Bukit Panjang Plaza to have our lunch because we were ravenous!! Some of us were eating voraciously as it was delicious. Due to bored after our lunch, some of my bandmates were playing chili sauce, ice, cheese and napkins. They were mixing them up and it was egregiously disgusting.

Finally, we went window-shopping. Yong Jing was so enthusiastic to buy something for someone. Thus, I suggested him what to buy and what will be good.

ThE EnD! ! ! ByE ~ ! =D

Hey, guys! On the 27th of december 2008, our band is holding a concert at Singapore Conference Hall. This is our very own first concert and we can assure you that it is interesting. Our band would be playing musics, acting (drama) and singing. So don't think that band is always only playing musics. It can be anything about musics or entertainment like, dancing. The details are shown clearly below:

Zhenghua Symphonic Band
Symphonie D' Harmonie
Venue: Singapore Conference Hall (SCH)
Date: 27 December 2008
Time: 7.30pm - ????
Duration: Depends how long the musics are.

Terms and Conditions for the tickets:

Latecomers will be delayed outside the hall until appropriate break or intermissions.
Refund of tickets are strongly disallowed under any circumstances like, unable to attend the concert during the last-minute changes or lost of tickets.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT lose the tickets as the band would not take any responsiblities just because of your carelessness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thus, if you are free on that day, please purchase the tickets and attend the concert. It would definitely be nice. Many of the Zhenghua Secondary School teachers or staffs are also going to the concert. So, join in the fun!
If you dunno where Singapore Conference Hall is, here is the road.
OR

RE: BAND PRACTICE, RECENT LIFE

Hellos, all!! I have not been posting for "donkey years" liao lors. I am so sorry about that. Because I dun feel like posting, as I didn't have anything to write or share. Oh yeah? How do you guys spend with your holidays? Good or bad? For me, I'm perfectly fine. It's still the same as usual. I had to leave home at 8.20am for my band practice at 9am. Oh foot!! I can tell you that my holiday is a boring and busy one instead of relaxation. My schedule is utterly packed!!!I don't even have the time to hang out with my friends neither to have a rest at home. Then, I had to attend the primary school open house tomorrow... which would begin at 7.30pm!! That's early!!!

Well, actually band is fun... for the primary school students you can consider band... is really insteresting... MUSIC IS ALWAYS FUN!!!

Oh yeah.. I almost forgot... we may be playing "the inferno" for our SYF 2009. That song is nice... but Mr Er, our instructor said that is not suitable for our band. This is because we are too soft.. NOT EVEN MORE MAN !!! This shows that our teacher wanted us to be more aggressive and loud...

Ok... I shall not talk more... I will post again as soon as possible.

ByE!! ByE!! =)
